Communities Prepare to Come Together
On Saturday 12 September 2026, thousands of people across the country will lace up their trainers and step out together for the UK Recovery Walk 2026, a nationwide celebration of recovery, resilience and hope. This year the flagship event lands in Bradford, where a full weekend of activity has been planned, while smaller local gatherings, including one in Luton, will take place on the very same day in a show of solidarity with the wider movement.
Organised by Create Strength Group and FAVOR UK, the UK Recovery Walk 2026 brings together individuals in recovery, their families, support workers and the wider public. It is as much about visibility as it is about walking, giving people the chance to stand together and show that recovery from drugs and alcohol is possible, common and worth celebrating.
A Weekend of Recovery in Bradford
Recovery Walk Bradford is not a single day event. It runs across three days, opening with a Recovery Conference at Bradford Live on Friday 11 September, which runs from 9:30am to 4:00pm, followed by a spiritual service at 6:00pm and a conference dinner at 7:30pm that evening.
Conference tickets are priced at £30 for professionals, organisations and supporters, with exhibition stalls also available at £30. Individuals in recovery can attend free of charge, reflecting the event’s focus on inclusion.
The main event, the UK Recovery Walk 2026 itself, takes place on Saturday 12 September at Centenary Square in Bradford. The Recovery Village opens its doors at 10:00am, the walk sets off at midday, and the village remains open until 5:00pm for stalls, support and celebration. Groups wishing to run a Recovery Village gazebo pitch can do so for a nominal £50 contribution towards costs.
The weekend closes on Sunday 13 September with a Recovery Ramble, starting and finishing at Salts School car park in Shipley between 10:00am and midday, offering a gentler close to three days that champion community, unity, inclusion and hope.
Luton Joins the Movement
While Bradford hosts the national programme, Bedfordshire’s own Recovery Walk will take place in Wardown Park, Luton, on the same Saturday. Registration opens at 8:30am at the Bandstand, with the walk beginning shortly after at 9:00am.
Whether people choose to walk, run or simply cheer from the sidelines, the Luton event is proudly supporting the UK Recovery Walk movement and shines its own light on the strength of local recovery communities. With thanks to parkrun for their support, the day is designed to be free, welcoming and open to anyone who wants to take part, breaking down stigma one step at a time.
Getting There
For those travelling to Bradford, the city is well connected. Bradford Interchange sits just 0.3 miles from Centenary Square, roughly five minutes on foot, with Bradford Forster Square a similarly short walk away. Drivers can expect journey times of around 25 minutes from Leeds, an hour from Manchester and 1 hour 15 minutes from Sheffield, with several car parks, including Hall Ings and NCP Leisure Exchange, within ten minutes’ walk of the main event. Accommodation nearby ranges from budget hotels from around £60 a night to premium options above £100.
Why It Matters
Events like the UK Recovery Walk 2026 exist to put recovery in plain sight, on the streets of Bradford and in the parks of Luton alike. By gathering as a community, walking side by side and cheering one another on, participants send a simple message that recovery from drugs and alcohol is real, achievable and worth walking for.
Anyone wishing to book conference places, exhibition stalls or a Recovery Village gazebo in Bradford can contact project.administrator@cslhg.org, while further updates on both events can be found through Create Strength Group and FAVOR UK.
