Dr Jane Green, a highly respected GP from Shropshire, tragically took her own life due to work-related stress, an inquest has concluded. Dr Green, described by her colleagues and patients as compassionate and exceptional, was pronounced dead on 29 June in Wrexham, Wales. The inquest heard evidence from her husband, Dr Graham Reardon, and her practice manager, James Bradbury, who spoke of her struggles with stress and burnout, which had led to her being signed off earlier in the year.

Dr Green’s death has deeply impacted the Caxton Surgery team, her patients, and the Oswestry community. Tributes poured in, with patients recalling her as a kind and dedicated GP who went above and beyond to care for others. The Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Integrated Care Board extended condolences to her family and highlighted the pressures faced by those in general practice. To address this, a group of GPs recently completed the National Three Peaks Challenge, raising over £12,000 for the charity Doctors in Distress, which supports suicide prevention among doctors.
