Substance Misuse Support: New Service in Doncaster, UK

Substance Misuse Support Group Meeting

A new service, the Open Access Service, has launched in Doncaster to offer vital substance misuse support for adults. Located at Rosslyn House on Thorne Road, it provides quick and effective help to individuals over 18 struggling with alcohol, ketamine, cannabis, cocaine, prescription drugs, and other substances.

Managed by Aspire Drug and Alcohol Services, in partnership with The Alcohol and Drugs Service (ADS) and Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH), the service focuses on helping people overcome addiction. The initiative ensures immediate advice and same-day assessments, making it easier for individuals to get the support they need.

Nigel Ball, Doncaster Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Health, Communities, Leisure, and Culture, shared his support for the project. He said, “This is a brilliant addition to the services Aspire Drugs and Alcohol offers. The aim is to give adults quick access for help and support with substance misuse.”

Andrea Vincent, Aspire’s Manager, highlighted the skill of the team behind the service. “The newly formed team are all experienced drug and alcohol practitioners. They aim to support anyone who walks into Aspire, offering harm reduction advice, a full same-day assessment, or a future appointment,” she explained.

Funded by Doncaster Public Health, the Open Access Service strengthens efforts to reduce addiction in the community. Its focus on prevention and recovery reflects a growing commitment to helping residents overcome the harms caused by substance misuse. By making expert care more accessible, the service is already playing a critical role in improving lives in Doncaster.
