Annemarie Ward has criticised the current state of drug treatment and rehabilitation in Scotland, despite these being devolved issues managed by the Scottish Government. Although drug policy is controlled by the UK government, Ward points out that Scotland has a staggering 3.5 times more drug-related deaths compared to the rest of the UK. She argues that the minister’s support for drug consumption rooms is not a sign of progress but rather an admission of defeat, offering inadequate palliative care without proper rehabilitation access.
