Random Drug and Alcohol Tests for England Fans at Euro 2024

Reports indicate that England fans could face random drug and alcohol tests if they appear intoxicated while supporting the team at Euro 2024. About 500,000 fans are expected to travel to Germany throughout the tournament, with up to 40,000 set to watch England’s opening match against Serbia on Sunday. UEFA has imposed strict regulations on drugs and alcohol to curb potential disorder and antisocial behaviour. Fans may be subjected to on-the-spot tests if they appear under the influence when attempting to enter stadiums.

Random checks will be carried out by police officers or trained officials using breathalysers on fans displaying behavioural issues or signs of intoxication. Authorities have already taken measures to prevent alcohol-induced disorder, such as serving low-strength beer in bars around the stadium during England’s match against Serbia. Additional measures include banning public drinking at the main plaza in Gelsenkirchen. The FA’s chief executive, Mark Bullingham, has urged England fans to behave responsibly throughout the tournament, acknowledging the large number of supporters expected to attend.
