The family of a former employee has filed a wrongful death lawsuit accusing Dr. Bronner’s of fostering a dangerous psychedelic drug culture that contributed to her tragic and untimely death. The lawsuit, filed in San Diego, alleges the victim, Denise Lozano, died from an accidental overdose after receiving an unregulated therapy session involving powerful drugs.

Dr. Bronner’s, a once-niche soap brand praised for its social and environmental ideals, has seen exponential growth in recent decades. The Vista-based company has drawn attention for its promotion of hallucinogenic substance practices. With over $14 million invested in psychedelic research and drug policy reform since 2019, it has also introduced ketamine-assisted mental health therapy for employees.

However, the lawsuit raises concerns over the company’s handling of psychedelics. Lozano, who worked in Dr. Bronner’s events division, reportedly suffered a back injury at work. The lawsuit claims executives arranged an alternative treatment involving ketamine to address her pain. During this session, an unlicensed masseuse allegedly administered MDA, a drug similar to MDMA, leading to her fatal overdose. Although MDA was present in her system, the coroner’s report showed no traces of ketamine.

Critics argue that Dr. Bronner’s advocacy for psychedelics and their integration into workplace practices has blurred personal and professional boundaries. While the company promotes these substances for emotional and spiritual growth, the lack of regulation poses significant risks.

This incident highlights the urgent need for a more cautious approach to psychedelic therapies and their integration into corporate culture, shedding light on the darker side of psychedelic drug culture and its potential harm.
