Ireland’s Citizens’ Assembly on Drugs Use concluded its work and presented its recommendations to the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Justice. The Assembly, a representative group of Irish citizens, spent six months considering how to reduce the harms associated with illicit drugs. A key recommendation proposes a shift away from criminalising possession of drugs for personal use, instead favouring a health-led approach with treatment and support services. The Assembly also recommended improvements to existing drug treatment options and increased access to harm reduction measures.
