New Ad Campaign Opposes Marijuana Amendment 3 in Florida

Smart Approaches to Marijuana Action (SAM Action) has launched a new advertising campaign aimed at urging Floridians to vote “NO” on Amendment 3, a ballot initiative that seeks to constitutionally protect the recreational use of marijuana. The nonprofit, which promotes a health-first approach to marijuana policy, is challenging what it describes as an “onslaught of pro-drug propaganda” and aims to highlight bipartisan opposition to the commercialisation of marijuana. SAM Action argues that the amendment serves the interests of Trulieve, the state’s largest marijuana corporation, and warns against the potential victimisation of young people and communities of colour if the amendment passes. Notable figures, such as Governor Ron DeSantis and former U.S. Rep. Patrick Kennedy, feature in the ads criticising the social and health implications of legalising recreational marijuana.

The campaign underscores the political divide surrounding Amendment 3, with opposition from the Republican Party of Florida and some bipartisan leaders, despite support from figures like former President Donald Trump. SAM Action’s advertisements draw on statements from various political leaders and emphasise concerns about the risks of increased accessibility to psychoactive drugs. The ads will be broadcast across Florida ahead of the November vote. For further details, visit Florida Voice News.
