ARORP Leads the Fight Against Opioid Overdoses

The Arkansas Opioid Recovery Partnership (ARORP) is taking significant strides in addressing the opioid epidemic by improving Naloxone access for first responders and schools. By implementing the Naloxone Hero Program, ARORP aims to provide communities across the state with life-saving tools to reverse opioid overdoses. Since its launch in 2022, this programme has distributed more than 86,000 doses of the opioid overdose reversal medication to community partners, fostering greater safety and preparedness.

Naloxone Access Act Expands Life-Saving Efforts

A recent amendment to the state’s Naloxone Access Act has further strengthened this initiative by expanding the range of individuals permitted to administer the drug. First responders, including police, firefighters, and paramedics, alongside school staff, now have the authority to use Naloxone during critical emergencies. This change ensures a faster, coordinated response to overdoses, potentially saving lives even in the most challenging scenarios.

Schools joining this initiative are particularly noteworthy, as they play a critical role in protecting young people and the broader community. By equipping educational settings with these tools, ARORP highlights the importance of addressing the opioid crisis at both community and institutional levels.
