Illegal Child-Friendly Vapes from China Flood UK Market

Chinese manufacturers are supplying illegal, child-friendly mega-vapes to the UK, as revealed by an undercover investigation. These vapes flout UK laws by containing nicotine levels up to 33 times higher than the legal limit, posing significant health risks to teenagers. The undercover reporter, posing as a buyer for a British retailer, was offered a variety of designs and flavours specifically designed to appeal to children, such as toy cars, Super Mario characters, and flavours like Skittles and cotton candy.

Manufacturers even offered to mislabel vapes to appear compliant with UK regulations and provided options for legal (‘white’) and illegal (‘black’) devices. Bulk orders of up to 10,000 illegal vapes were available, with ‘special’ shipping agents to bypass UK customs checks. Experts have warned that up to one-third of vapes sold in UK shops could be illegal. In response, the Department of Health has pledged action to prevent youth vaping, while campaigners call for stricter enforcement and mandatory testing of all vapes to ensure compliance with UK laws.
