Illegal Cannabis Packaging Mimics Children's Candy

A taskforce in Los Angeles has seized over 2 million illicit cannabis packages disguised as children’s candy, according to an announcement by Governor Gavin Newsom. The operation, conducted in the Los Angeles Toy District, targeted 11 storefronts allegedly involved in manufacturing and selling these deceptive packages. The packaging mimicked popular food and candy brands, posing a risk to children and undermining state safety regulations. Alongside the cannabis packages, authorities confiscated boxes of illicit cigarettes and tobacco products.

Governor Newsom emphasised California’s commitment to maintaining a safe and legal cannabis market, condemning criminal activities that endanger children and violate consumer trust. The operation highlights a troubling trend where illegal operators use misleading packaging to bypass tax and licensing requirements. The taskforce, established in 2022, has been instrumental in seizing unlicensed cannabis products and enforcing compliance with state regulations to protect consumers and the legal market.
