A shocking case has unfolded in Wappinger Falls, where Alvis Lewis, Jr., 54, a drug counsellor at a rehabilitation centre, has been arrested on serious drug charges. Lewis, who worked overnight shifts at an in-patient rehabilitation facility in Carmel, New York, has been charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree with intent to sell, as well as the fourth degree. A significant crack cocaine seizure was made during the investigation.
The Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that its Drug Task Force conducted a thorough investigation into narcotics sales in the Wappinger and Poughkeepsie areas. Community members played an essential role by alerting authorities to a suspected drug dealer using multiple aliases. Lewis was identified as a key suspect, and investigators purchased crack cocaine from him on multiple occasions to gather evidence.
During a search of Lewis’s home and vehicles, additional crack cocaine, already packaged for sale, was seized. Following his arraignment, Lewis was remanded without bail, and officials noted that more charges could follow as investigations continue.
Authorities have highlighted the critical role of public cooperation in this case and are encouraging anyone with further information to come forward. This development highlights the importance of community efforts in tackling illegal drug activities and upholding public safety.
